Alessia Ranieri | Counselling Psychologist

My name is Alessia Ranieri. I am a Counselling Psychologist (HCPC registered).
I work as a private practitioner in Central London and I offer open ended counselling to individuals and couples, in English and Italian.
I have been in clinical practice for 5 years and I worked with people experiencing a range of different issues in life, from physical pains and discomfort to relational difficulties, struggles in finding new paths, anxiety, depression, isolation.
My counselling approach aims at helping individuals find new ways of dealing with difficult circumstances and emotions such as sadness, fear, anger, guilt, loneliness, shame, grief, panic or stress. I strongly believe that each person is unique, and that uniqueness must be nurtured and valued, rather than fixed or restrained. In this sense counselling is for me not just the place where to build bridges and overcome difficulties but also a chance to get to a deeper self-knowledge, discover new ways and purposes in life and nurture the person’s potential.
I see counselling as a journey where the client and the counsellor board together, as traveling partners, in the same adventure. What matters the most, is the nature of the journey rather than the actual destination. The travel provides an opportunity to explore the client’s life more closely and to gain a deeper understanding of their difficulties and struggles. Together will be then possible to find ways out of those difficulties and plot new routes toward the client’s future destinations. In this sense, the counselling journey is also a courageous venture.
My approach is based on Personal Construct Psychology and I use the dialogue as a way to comprehend the underlying reasons of the person’s choices and build together new possible alternatives for their lives.
As I believe that life is about learning I keep studying and training myself as a professional. At the moment, I am about to complete a Diploma in Constructivist Psychotherapy (Institute of Constructivist Psychology, Padua) and I am conducting a doctoral research in the field of Coaching for Leadership Development (Henley Business School).
